Flesh & Blood

If you love heroes who grow stronger the longer the game goes, Florian, Rotwood Harbinger might be your next favourite Runeblade.
In this guide, we’re breaking down what makes Florian tick - how to play them, why they’re a blast to pilot, and how to actually close out games when your engine’s online. Whether you’re a budget builder or chasing that meta edge, there’s something satisfying about watching your forest-powered setup come to life.

How to Play

  • Florian’s key mechanic is his hero ability: if you have 8+ Earth cards in your banished zone, whenever you’d create aura tokens you instead create one extra.

  • To get that going you need to include cards with the Decompose keyword: these let you send Earth cards to your banished zone. For example: cards like Cadaverous Tilling, Rootbound Carapace, etc.

  • While you build up this engine, you’ll be playing a mix of attacks + non-attack actions to stay safe and accumulate value. Defence, life gain, and tempo matter early.

  • Once you hit that “online” state (Hero ability active) you start generating aura tokens and Runechant tokens, getting more value from your plays.

Why They’re Fun to Play

  • It’s got that satisfying progression: early game you’re scraping together resources and surviving, then mid-game you flip the switch and suddenly every play feels value-rich.

  • You get to build up your banished zone and see your engine rewards kick in - feels almost like powering up a machine.

  • There’s a nice blend of strategy: choosing when to decompose, when to attack or defend, when to push your value engine. Keeps you engaged.

  • It has flavour! Earth cards, tokens, runechants - if you’re into the thematic feel of “nature reclaiming” or “forest power rising”, Florian nails that.

How to Win

  • Activate the hero ability as reliably as possible - without it you’ll be weaker. That means include enough Decompose cards & Earth cards so you hit that 8+ banished zone threshold.

  • Build value every turn: Use non-attack actions, defend smartly, accumulate tokens. The more value you pack in early/mid game, the stronger your late game becomes.

  • Apply pressure at the right time: When your engine is online, use cards that capitalise on it (e.g. cards that generate many Runechants, or big hits backed by your extra tokens).

  • Don’t neglect survival: Because Florian’s engine takes time, you want to stay alive long enough to get it running. So keep up defence, life gain, blocking when needed.

Florian’s all about patience, planning, and payoff - a hero that rewards you for every smart decision. Once your Earth cards start fueling your banished zone and your auras start multiplying, it’s pure value heaven.
